Persephone Books is a London-based publication company whose original aim was to “re-print a handful of lost or out-of-print books every year”, particularly novels by women writers from the inter-war period. The name “Persephone” is chosen in reference to the Greek goddess, symbolizing renewal and a somewhat dual role (victim/mistress) — reflecting the idea of resurrecting overlooked works. One of the most striking features is the uniform grey cover design for all their books: a consistent visual identity that’s immediately recognizable.
My goal was to give the company a soft rebrand, specifically pertaining to their logo. I wanted to keep their mission and their design philosophy while also creating a fresh look. My final design is an intricate layer of geometric circles that build out multiple meanings from the symbolic flower of Persephone, to the scroll that she holds in the company's original logo.
